It is common knowledge that some fundamentalist groups are against Freemasonry and what it stands for. According to the Freemasons, the fundamentalists are of this mindset because they do not know what the Freemasons stand for and in other words, they have reached this stage because of being misinformed.
There is often much discussion about the symbols that are utilized in Freemasonry. Some non-freemasons or those that feel that they are a cult suggest that their symbols are synchronized with devil worship.
When an individual becomes accepted into this fraternity its not likely that they know anything substantial about it simply because of the secrecy kept amongst the Masons of not discussing what goes on behind closed doors. Therefore, no doubt the new member has some reservations when going to his first meeting. Once he gets there, he will be subjected to an entrance ritual.
Throughout the years, there has been a controversy of whether the Freemasons are a fraternity for the betterment of humanity or whether they are just a secretive cult. Much emphasis has been put on what renowned figures were members of this Society. It would seem that if a prominent leader of the Country were pro Freemasons then it should automatically speak highly of the Freemasons reputation. In recent years, we have come to realize that not everything our government leaders do is always right. One wonders if much credence would be given to an organization in today’s age just because some high government official endorses them.
There is little doubt that there is a fair amount of anti Freemason information contained on the internet. There are variations in this information but the majority of the issues seem to center around two major points. It would seem that the main concerns of the anti masons are that the organization is a Satan worshipper cult and/or political corruption is rampant amongst them.
As according to the claims made by the Freemasons they are not a religious fraternity and do not believe from their stance that there is any conflict with most religions. Their stand is they demand religious tolerance. When asked to explain their argument is they believe in freedom of choice in religion and do not suppress the belief of others. They appear to be of the mind that there are many Religions that do this by persecuting those in opposition to those particular religions beliefs.
One of the biggest contentions amongst freemasons and anti Masons has been the conception that any Christian that is a Mason is not allowed to pray in the Lodge. The retort to this is yes they can its just that there is not one specific Christian prayer or any prayer that tie to a specific religion for that matter. There is a specific Lodge prayer that all members must adhere to including Christians. What they are alluding to is one prayer, theirs, fits all religions.
