Help On Playstation / PS3 Repair
Unfortunately everyone who purchased a Playstation 3 sunk a nice chunk of change into it and then started experiencing various problems requiring Playstation / Ps3 repair. This is extremely frustrating considering that a 300 upfront cost is definitely an investment. You should be getting the type of system that doesn’t have constant issues. Nowadays you can’t fix those read game errors simply by blowing into the cartridge. Everything has been much more sophisticated, which means more expenses on your part. However, there are still a few fixes you can do at home for common issues.
The first thing you have to do is figure out whether or not you have a warranty that is still valid. They usually last for about a year and then you’re left to fend for yourself. Keep in mind this extends to the mechanical defect, which eventually causes a malfunction. So basically they’re telling you not to spill the soda pop on the console or you’re just out of luck.
If the machine is outside of the warranty time frame you can proceed with do it yourself fixes, but keep in mind if you turn a screw on the system, you will void any warranty so check your paperwork. Sony will be able to tell if you have cracked the case on the unit so do not assume you can carefully dismantle it and put it back together.
The “Yellow Light of Death” is probably the most common issue out there. This is when your system will turn on, but there won’t be anything that displays on the screen. If you’re dealing with hardware failure then the front LED light will be yellow. You really can’t do anything with this problem since the system is extremely powerful due to the motherboard, CPU, and graphics interface. What happens is these things make the unit extremely hot. Once the heat damages the solder your motherboard will begin to crack and disconnect. So the only thing left to do is get it professionally repaired.
However, if your system will not come on and there is no yellow light present you can try resetting the system. Press and hold the power button for a full 20 seconds. While you are holding the button, you should hear three beeps. Once you release the power button, the system should come on normally.
Then there are other times when corrupted data is present. This happens because of faulty downloads or several other issues. There is a good chance you have this problem if you’re trying to watch movies or Blue Ray and the system freezes. You can fix this by finding a hard drive format, but make sure you back everything up first. Remember this is just like erasing everything (reimaging) from your computer.
There are a bunch of other repair options if you want to fix your system at home, and most are pretty common. While this is true it’s still possible you will have no other choice but to send it to the manufacturer. If you’re willing to take risks and gifted in console repair, you can find spare parts online.
Instead of constantly researching online it would be a good idea to get a repair manual. It will have all the information you need to fix your PS3 or know that a professional must repair it.
